The U.S. Department of Labor, Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), has awarded Texas State University to provide 2.5 hours of temperature extremes training to six hundred (600) workers and employers in the construction and general industries. The targeted audience includes young workers, temporary, minority, limited English speaking, and other disadvantaged and hard-to-reach workers and worker communities. Training materials include heat and cold stress hazards, symptoms, control, and treatment. Training also includes a brief overview of employee rights, employer responsibilities, whistleblower laws, OSHA’s Complaint Policies and Procedures, and anti-retaliation provisions (11(c)). TXST plans to use existing materials from previous Susan Harwood grant and materials available on the OSHA web site and plans to revise existing materials as needed. Training will be held at TXST campus, work sites, and other locations as requested. Training will be in English, Spanish, and Vietnamese. The trainees will receive training supplies and a training completion certificate.
Training location: Texas State University Campus (San Marcos and Round Rock), work sites, business locations, and at requested locations.
